About MACN

Maritime Anti-Corruption Network (MACN), Denmark, is a global business network working towards the vision of a maritime industry free of corruption that enables fair trade to the benefit of society at large. Established in 2011 by a small group of committed maritime companies, MACN has grown to include over 220 shipping and other companies carrying above 50% of the load in tonnage globally and has become one of the pre-eminent examples of collective action to tackle corruption.

MACN and its members work towards the elimination of all forms of maritime corruption by raising awareness of the challenges faced in implementing the MACN Anti-Corruption Principles and co-developing and sharing best international practices, collaborating with governments, non-governmental organizations, and civil society to identify and mitigate the root causes of corruption, providing training, and creating a culture of integrity within the maritime community. MACN is comprised of like-minded companies dedicated to promoting compliance with anti-corruption laws and committed to the elimination of corrupt practices.

GCNP encourages companies to follow the UNGC’s Ten Principles covering Human and Labor Rights, Environmental Protection, and Anti-corruption. Serving as a platform for dialogue and collaboration, GCNP brings together businesses, civil society, government, and other stakeholders to share ideas and best practices in sustainability and helps companies integrate these principles into their daily operations.

GCNP provides training, resources, and tools to support members in adopting sustainable practices and aligning with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It organizes events, workshops, and seminars to raise awareness and foster involvement in sustainability initiatives. Collective Action Projects in the World

Since September 2021, MACN has partnered with GCNP to tackle corruption in Pakistan’s maritime industry through a Collective Action approach. This collaboration brings together key stakeholders of the maritime industry, including government bodies, port authorities, private companies, and trade associations, to foster transparency, integrity, and ethical practices in maritime operations.

To introduce international best practices in Pakistan’s maritime industry.
Promote transparency, integrity, and predictability in port calls.
Engage maritime stakeholders, government agencies, and civil society to achieve the project’s objectives by enhancing awareness and building capacities to adopt benchmark maritime practices.
Such joint initiatives include surveys, conferences, awareness campaigns, workshops, and training sessions to educate businesses and government officials on ethical business practices, while also providing tools and resources to improve compliance standards and reduce the risk of malpractices / illegal practices.
