What is the Communication on Progress Report?

All UN Global Compact business participants must publish an annual Communication on Progress (CoP) report (Questionnaire). This highlights your company’s commitment to the Ten Principles and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Non-business participants submit a Communication on Engagement (CoE) every two years via the UNGC Dashboard.

The CoP helps companies:

  • Measure and show progress consistently to stakeholders and the public.
  • Build credibility and brand value through visible commitment to sustainability.
  • Improve performance by identifying gaps, accessing guidance, and setting goals.
  • Benchmark against peers using one of the largest free corporate sustainability data sources.

CoP Submission Requirements

The CoP includes two components, submitted via the digital platform:

  1. CEO Statement of Continued Support – a standardized, electronically signed declaration of your company’s commitment to the Ten Principles.
  2. CoP Questionnaire – reports company actions and performance on the Ten Principles and SDGs.

Submission Period

The mandatory CoP reporting window is 1 April – 31 July. Organizations that miss this deadline will be marked “Non-Communicating,” losing access to UNGC tools and resources.

There are no grace periods or extensions. Participants remaining non-communicating for six months (until 31 December) will be delisted automatically.
